Description
This is a Feng Shui compass dating back to as early as the 19th century. The region and the maker of the object is labeled on the back, indicating that the object originates from Xiuning County in Anhui province, China. This was one of many produced in that region - to this day, the tradition of crafting these kinds of objects is still being continued in that region. Eventually it was brought over to Japan, possibly as a souvenir, and then to America in the late 19th century by WIlliam Patillo Turner.
