Part of the wall and moat of what became known as Osaka Castle, built under the orders of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, beginning in 1583 and completed in 1585, on the site of the Ishiyama Hongan-ji temple. Turner has added the inscription, "Castle wall and moat, Osaka. Constructed by Hideyoshi Toyotomi or 'The Taiko' (the Oliver Cromwell of Japan) in 1583."
