Turner has added the inscription, "The great bell at Nara. It was cast in A.D. 732. Height 13 ft 6 in, Diameter 9 ft, Thickness 8.4 in." The photograph inserted at right shows two foreigners visiting a bell, to which he has added the inscription, "To the right:-Bishop Galloway and Rev. W.W. Wadsworth under the Great Bell at Nara." (Galloway visited Japan in 1907).
