The scene shows a young man and women posing as a bride and groom with two older people as go-betweens. They are seated around low tables holding sake cups and an elaborate floral decoration. Behind them is a painted backdrop of a room interior, and to their right a part of folding screen. Turner has added the inscription,"Japanese marriage ceremony at the bridegroom's house. The kakadachi or 'go-betweens' are officiating."
