The photographer has labeled the print, "H113. Nanko Temple, Kobe," and Turner has added the inscription, "A well-known temple in Kobe, Shinto temple." (Note: Typically, English speakers use the word "temple" to refers to Buddhist structures; Shintô places of veneration are called "shrines." The formal name for this site is Minatogawa Jinja, or Minatogawa Shrine. "Nankô" is an appellation of Kusunoki Masashige, the medieval warrior whom the shrine celebrates.)
