This is a side view of the Shinkyo or sacred bridge built over the Daiya River and located at the entrance of Futarasan-jinja in Nikko. The photographer has labeled the print "I.5. The Sacred Bridge." Turner has added the inscription, "Sacred Bridge at Nikko built in 1638. No one is allowed to pass over it; in ancient times Shoguns + Pilgrims." There is a number "2922" written in black ink near the inscription, and written in pencil along the left edge is "Transferred from Oxford (2 vols) 5' 9 (4?).
